Newcastle transfer update on Diawara

Newcastle United are now reportedly keen on signing Amadou Diawara before the summer transfer window ends.

The Lowdown: Diawara impresses

Diawara has come off the back of an impressive individual 2020/21 season with AS Roma, helping them finish in seventh spot in the Serie A table.

The Guinea international was particularly impressive in their UEFA Europa League campaign, winning no fewer than 3.1 of his duels per game in the competition, as well as averaging 2.3 interceptions, 1.4 tackles and 1.3 clearances per match (Sofascore).

The Latest: Newcastle keen

As per Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), the St. James’ Park faithful are now ‘interested’ in a potential move for Diawara, who needs to be sold by Roma to make room for a new central midfield player.

Wolves are also reportedly keen on his signature, but he has turned down the option of joining the Midlands club.

The Verdict: Sign

The North East club could certainly do with some more bodies in the middle of the park ahead of the new 2021/22 Premier League season, and Diawara would fit the bill.

Once dubbed a ‘phenomenon’ by Italian agent and scout Robert Visan back in 2018, the 24-year-old still has a lot of potential, and has already shown that he is more than capable of playing at a high level with his performances in European competition.

Currently rated at just £12.6m by Transfermarkt, Diawara could turn out to be an absolute bargain, should the Tyneside club be able to sign him of course.

Man Utd linked to Corentin Tolisso

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to bolster the club’s engine room.

What’s the story?

According to German outlet BILD, the Red Devils are interested in securing the 27-year-old’s signature this summer but are set to face competition from several potential suitors.

The report claims that Juventus, Arsenal and West Ham United are also keen on Tolisso after Bayern slashed their asking price to just €10 million (£8.5m).

Imagine him and Bruno Fernandes

Tolisso arrived at the Allianz Arena with a growing reputation following his £37m move from boyhood club Lyon back in 2017 and instantly settled in the Bavarian capital.

He bagged 10 goals and provided a further seven assists for his teammates in 40 appearances for Munich, playing a pivotal part as they secured the Bundesliga title.

However, after helping France claim the World Cup over the summer, Tolisso suffered a cruciate ligament injury in August 2018, limiting him to just four outings in the entire 2018/19 campaign.

The central midfielder has struggled to force his way back into the first-team picture at Bayern since, starting just 14 top-flight fixtures over the last couple of campaigns.

Having said that, Tolisso has shown glimpses of getting back to his best with some standout performances, notably against Atletico Madrid in last season’s Champions League group stage.

Speaking to media previously (via AZ), former Bayern boss Hansi Flick heaped praise on the box-to-box beast, praising him following an improved performance against the Spanish giants.

“You can tell during training that a burden has been dropped from him. That is extremely important for him because then he has a certain degree of relaxation,” said Flick.

“Then he can play with his very own class, which gives him more self-confidence. He is very strong. He has this quality, good finishes from the second row, but he also pits.”

If Solskjaer can help the Lyon academy graduate rediscover his best form on a consistent basis, then for just £8.5m, the Norwegian tactician could have a real bargain on his hands.

A combination of Bruno Fernandes and Tolisso in the middle of the park would be a pairing capable of striking fear into any Premier League defence next term, and therefore, football director John Murtough must swoop.

Palmer: Southampton should sell Danny Ings now

Southampton should sell Danny Ings in the current transfer window, says former Saints midfielder Carlton Palmer.

Ings once again finished the season as Southampton’s top scorer in all competitions, registering 13 times during the 2020/21 campaign.

However, the English striker’s future looks to be away from St. Mary’s. According to The Athletic, he has turned down a new contract, with his current one – worth £75,000 a week – set to expire next summer.

It leaves the south coast club with a huge decision to make: sell now or risk losing him on a free transfer. For Palmer, it should be the former.

“I don’t like players going down into the last year of their contract,” the ex-Southampton star told TT in an exclusive interview.

“I would sit down with him now and say, ‘Right, listen, if you’re not going to commit to a long-term contract, it’s better that you move on now.’ Do the business now, move him on. Get some money for him and move him on.”

If Southampton can get £30m or something around that for Ings this summer, then it probably does make sense to sell him.

It, of course, will give Ralph Hasenhuttl a bigger budget to work with when it comes to searching for a replacement. And as things stand, the Saints finding themselves in the market looking for a new striker looks inevitable.

Liverpool fans react to Taiwo Awoniyi news

A number of Liverpool supporters are happy with the news that Taiwo Awoniyi will complete a summer move to Bundesliga side Union Berlin.

Jurgen Klopp could have a busy summer on his hands, as he looks to perfect his Reds squad ahead of next season.

There is plenty of focus on which players could come in and make difference, but there are also individuals who will head the other way to clear up funds and make room on the wage bill.

[freshpress-quiz id=“359326”]

Awoniyi is one of them, with the Nigerian spending last season on loan in Berlin and Klopp seemingly not seeing a future for him at Liverpool.

Ironically, the 23-year-old has just been handed a UK work permit, but his permanent exit from Anfield is now almost complete.

According to Goal‘s Neil Jones on Twitter, Awoniyi will seal a £6.5million move to Berlin permanently, with a medical taking place on Tuesday.

Com goleiros em baixa no São Paulo, Renan Ribeiro deve ganhar chance

MatériaMais Notícias

O clássico contra o Palmeiras, no último sábado, deixou a situação no gol do São Paulo complicada.

A chance deve pintar nesta semana.

Everton manager update on Nuno

Many Everton fans have been expressing their delight as an update emerged on Nuno Espirito Santo.

As per talkSPORT, Tottenham Hotspur have now set their sights on appointing the former Wolves boss as their new coach. The news outlet added that he is thought to be a strong contender for the vacant position at Goodison Park after the departure of Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid.

Nuno’s preferred three-at-the-back formation, which he often deployed at Molineux, may not suit the Merseyside club, especially if it ends up turning into a back five while defending and duly seen as a negative tactic.

Everton will surely be looking to score more often next season, having managed just 47 in the Premier League last term, the fewest by far of any team in the top half of the table (Sky Sports). Therefore, it is not a surprise to see so many Toffees fans wanting him to join Spurs instead.

Palmer: Roy Hodgson West Brom return would be a surprise

Former West Brom midfielder Carlton Palmer has told The Transfer Tavern in an exclusive interview that he would be very surprised if Roy Hodgson returned to the Hawthorns.

Hodgson is out of work following his departure from Crystal Palace and is being linked with the West Brom job.

According to Football Insider, the Midlands club have actually made an approach for the 73-year-old, but that has been knocked back.

All in all, it is simply something Palmer cannot see happening, though the ex-West Brom player expects Hodgson to return to football in the near future.

“I don’t think Roy Hodgson is finished with football yet. I don’t think he’s finished with football,” Palmer said.

“But I’d be very surprised if he took on the job of West Brom right now knowing what job that entails at this moment in time.”

The Baggies’ search for a new manager is really starting to drag on, with David Wagner now out of the running having looked set for the Hawthorns dug out.

This comes after a deal to bring former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder also collapsed.

It remains to be seen where West Brom turn to now but, like Wagner and Wilder, Hodgson also seems to be out of the equation.
