    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Morrison rose through the United academy to become one of England's most promising young players, but he went on to make just three senior appearances for the Red Devils and was sold to West Ham two years after his debut. Since then, the Jamaica international has played in Italy, Mexico, Sweden, Netherlands and the United States.

  • WHAT LYNCH SAID

While Morrison was unable to live up to his early promise, Precision team-mate Joel Lynch, who also played with him briefly at Queens Park Rangers, says the 31-year-old still looks "exceptional" in training.

"I played with Ravel for a short time at Queen's Park Rangers and obviously he comes with so much expectation," he said on . "He's an exceptional talent, even in the couple of days he's been here. He's been embarrassing players with all his nutmegs and all his skills. You don't really want to go anywhere near him on the pitch. There's pressure he's under as well to be Ravel Morrision, the way that people have talked about him in the past. We want him here, it's a great environment and he can come here and enjoy his football."

Morrison's new club are aiming to fight their way up to the top league in the UAE and will hope the former United wonderkid will help fire them out of the third-tier this season.

Man Utd could turn Hojlund into a monster by hiring ‘Manager of the Year’

The 2023/24 season has been a very frustrating time for Manchester United. Erik ten Hag’s side currently sit eighth in the Premier League, having lost a club-record 13 times since the competition began in 1992.

Not only that, the Champions League was a disaster for the Red Devils. They finished rock bottom of their group, which included Bayern Munich, Copenhagen and Galatasaray, conceding 15 goals in the process. As per Opta Joe, that is the most conceded by a Premier League side in the Champions League group stages.

Whilst they are in the FA Cup final, their day of destiny being a second consecutive meeting against Manchester City, their defence of the Carabao Cup went poorly, getting eliminated in the fourth round by Newcastle.

With such poor form, it is perhaps no surprise that reports are suggesting United’s new owners, INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, are considering sacking the Dutchman, with the Daily Telegraph’s Matt Law suggesting on Tuesday his future is “far from certain” after a dismal 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

Man Utd's manager shortlist

In the event of Ten Hag’s sacking, United have been linked with several names, with managers including Thomas Tuchel, being banded about as a potential replacement. However, there may be one option in the Premier League who could provide the answer, especially considering the fact he could bring out the best in one of United’s most exciting squad members.

The manager in question here is Aston Villa boss Unai Emery, who has done a wonderful job at Villa Park this season. Former Red Devils winger Lee Sharpe suggested last month that Emery would be a “class manager for United”, provided he was “given the support and the full backing”, like he has received at Villa.

Former United striker Dwight Yorke has also backed Emery, explaining that, if he were to switch clubs this summer, the Spaniard would do “even better than Erik ten Hag, Mikel Arteta or Jurgen Klopp at their clubs”.

It has been a superb season for Villa, who have all but sealed their place in next season’s Champions League, currently sitting in fourth on 67 points, seven points clear of fifth place Tottenham Hotspur. He has performed so well, that football presenter Dougie Critchley believes Emery deserves to win manager of the season.

Indeed, Emery has turned Villa Park into a fortress this season. As per Understat, they have played 18 home games, winning 12, drawing three and losing three, all while scoring 45 goals and conceding just 25. They have been in imperious home form.

Emery has been famed for his 4-2-2-2 system at Villa this season, which sees his side play with little width. Two false wingers tuck inside and act as number 10s, whilst the centre-forwards make runs into the channels behind opposition defences.

How Emery would benefit Hojlund

The Spaniard’s track record with getting the best out of his centre-forwards is certainly a big advantage for United.

Five strikers whom Emery has coached so far have gone on to get 50 or more goals under his tutelage, including David Villa with 59 and Edinson Cavani with 89; Ollie Watkins is well on his way to 50, too.

The Red Devils have struggled in front of goal this season, and could certainly do with someone like Emery to get the best out of their forwards.

Since joining United in August for a fee of £72m, Rasmus Hojlund’s form has been rather patchy. He has scored 14 goals in 39 games for the Red Devils this season, which includes eight in the Premier League, five in the Champions League and one in the FA Cup.

Unai Emery

However, despite his lack of goals, Hojlund clearly has the potential to become a top-level striker. Some of his strikes this term, such as the one away to Luton, in which he anticipated Alejandro Garmacho’s shot and deflected it in off his chest, are enough to prove that.

Not only that, he is an excellent channel-runner, something he showed at Atalanta, and it is one task that Emery desires from strikers at Villa. This is certainly something that Hojlund could excel at under the Spaniard, given his pace and power to run the channels all day.

He has been somewhat misused by Ten Hag so far, who has utilised the Dane as more of a target man, tasked to win second balls from long goal kicks by Andre Onana, which he has struggled with at times.

Rasmus Hojlund

Indeed, Emery’s track record with strikers is impressive, and it does make you think that, if Hojlund was to play under him, we could see the Dane explode and show much more of the potential he clearly has.

He has helped Watkins unearth his full potential, and become one of the Premier League’s best strikers. There is nothing to say he could not do the same with Hojluind if he got the United job.

Gary Stead 'very surprised' by outrage at pre-planned break

New Zealand’s returning coach Gary Stead has said that he was “very surprised” by the criticism that had been directed at him when we went on a pre-planned leave, after the team had been blanked 5-0 in the T20I series against India.Stead handed over the reins to bowling coach Shane Jurgensen for the following three-match ODI series and took a five-day break, which sparked outrage in New Zealand. Former captain Jeremy Coney, in particular, was scathing in his criticism of the coach and the timing of his leave. Prior to the T20Is against India, New Zealand had been whitewashed 3-0 across the Tasman Sea in the longest format.ALSO READ: Coney hits out at Stead, NZC defends coach’s leave“I was really surprised,” Stead said ahead of the first Test against India. “I mean New Zealand Cricket and I have talked about this for a long time, looking after the staff and the players we have. So, we did that and I know New Zealand Cricket are doing what we think is right for our us as people, first and foremost, so we did it. I was very surprised.”I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. I guess what Jeremy Coney says about me doesn’t necessarily have relevance to the way we go about things. So, yeah…”New Zealand cricket had earlier backed Stead’s pre-planned holiday, citing workload issues. In Stead’s absence, New Zealand clinched the ODI series 3-0. After sweeping the ODI series, captain Kane Williamson opted not to read too much into Stead’s leave and reiterated that it was a pre-planned one.Stead said that he now felt refreshed following the break and is plotting an upturn in New Zealand’s Test fortunes after their 3-0 drubbing in Australia.”It was good to spend time with the family,” he said. I know that. Look, I have had four-five days and I’m back to work planning for this Test series now. Again, the distractions don’t need to be there. So, we have to move on and look ahead to the India Test series now. “

"Very likely" – Agent drops Osimhen clue amid Arsenal and Chelsea interest

An Italian agent has shared what he knows about the future of Victor Osimhen amid links to Premier League giants Chelsea and Arsenal.

Osimhen in hot demand

Both London clubs are keen on Nigeria star Osimhen this summer, as the Napoli man seems set to leave Italy come the end of the season. The Gunners are on the hunt for a new striker following another injury-hit season for Gabriel Jesus, which has seen them forced to use both Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz as their no.9 at various points through the season.

Though they have scored the most goals of any English top flight side this season, there is obviously a gap at the top of the pitch for Mikel Arteta's side which needs filling, and it is expected to be a priority this summer amid continued expectation that Eddie Nketiah will leave the club.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are crying out for a goalscorer. Though Nicolas Jackson shows plenty of promise, he is far from clinical and the Blues have suffered as a result this season, currently sitting 12th in the Premier League and staring down the barrel of another season with no European football at Stamford Bridge, just three years after they were crowned European champions in Porto.

It is largely their inability in front of goal that has stopped the Blues progressing up the table this season, despite Mauricio Pochettino's assertion that "if you look at all the data, in the table we should be in fourth position".

Osimhen decision may already be made

According to Italian agent Dario Canovi, who represents Bologna boss Thiago Motta, Osimhen will turn down Premier League interest in order to make a move back to France and turn out for Paris Saint Germain, who are on the hunt for a talismanic figure to replace Real Madrid bound Kylian Mbappe.

Napoli strikerVictor Osimhen.

“In my view, it is very likely he will play for Paris Saint-Germain,” Canovi told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli. “It would be the smartest signing to replace Kylian Mbappé, who has been a Real Madrid player for months and it’s a farce that they are trying to avoid telling us.”

It would be an odd choice for the Parisians, who signed striking pair Goncalo Ramos and Randal Kolo-Muani just last summer. But, with a release clause in Osimhen's contract reportedly set at 130m euros (£111m), it could become a formality for whoever activates that clause.

It has been a poor season for Napoli, but the Nigerian has remained a bright spark. The 25-year-old has struck 11 goals and grabbed 3 assists in just 18 Serie A outings, and will forever be remembered fondly for helping deliver the title to Naples last season for the first time since Diego Maradona graced the Italian side.

Everton in pole position to sign "terrific" gem for Dyche in summer deal

Following the positive outcome of their appeal, which has seen their point deduction reduced to six, having initially been as many as 10, Everton can finally shift their focus to staying up in the Premier League and then targeting some summer additions as a result. With that said, talks are already reportedly underway to welcome a future star for Sean Dyche.

Everton transfer news

The majority of the headlines regarding Everton have been stolen by their FFP issues and rumours regarding the futures of current stars Amadou Onana and Jarrad Branthwaite. The former has been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle United in the past and those rumours will likely only come back around when the summer transfer window swings open.

Meanwhile, Branthwaite, after an incredibly impressive breakthrough season, has been mentioned alongside Tottenham Hotspur and even Real Madrid in what would be a sensational move. Reportedly valued at £75m, the centre-back could be involved in one of the deals of the summer.

Among the concerning news about financial breaches and departures, however, those at Goodison Park do at least have some positives to focus on with one of those being the potential arrival of an Irish sensation.

According to Pete O'Rourke of Football Insider, Everton have opened talks to sign Mason Melia and are in pole position to sign the St Patrick's Athletic forward this summer. Just 16-years-old, Melia is reportedly considered one of the best young talents to emerge from Ireland and now looks set to get a Premier League chance in the form of a summer switch to Everton.

What's more, as per Football Insider, the teenager even attracted the interest of Liverpool last summer, which makes Everton's move all the more satisfying should they get the deal over the line in the coming months.

"Terrific" Melia is one for the future

At just 16-years-old, Melia is already making strides into senior football in Ireland with seven appearances and even a goal and an assist to his name for St Patrick's Athletic this season. The centre-forward has also featured for Ireland's U19 side in a sign of things to come for what is looking likely to be an impressive career both at club level and international for Melia.

It is Everton who will be hoping to reap the rewards of his rise, however, as they look to finalise their move. Melia, meanwhile, if he completes his Premier League switch, will be hoping to make an instant impression on his way to Dyche's first team.

The likes of Beto and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have struggled to lead the line for the Toffees this season, creating the opening for a new star to emerge. And the Republic of Ireland Player Tracker X account will certainly believe that Melia has the ability to become that star, having previously sung his praises.

After impressing in Ireland, Melia is one to watch, whether that be in Merseyside this summer or elsewhere.
