There were three wickets each for Jake Ball and Tom Lammonby, while Jack Leach sent down ten overs of left-arm spin for miserly figures of 2 for 23.Two rain-interruptions left Somerset facing a revised target of 149 in 45 overs. They reached it with more than 13 overs to spare, skipper James Rew leading the way with 46, and now face a trip to meet Worcestershire in the semi-finals on Sunday.Gloucestershire never recovered from losing James Bracey, so prolific in the competition this season, to the second ball of the match, bowled by Ball pushing forward defensively. The decision to bat first had come as a surprise as play began under heavily overcast skies, with the floodlights on, and a threat of rain later in the day.Cameron Bancroft looked in good touch, striking two big sixes in a half-century stand for the second wicket with Ollie Price. It was 56 for 2 in the 14th over when the Australian, on 34, played a checked drive to Kasey Aldridge and saw the bowler take a juggling return catch.Price had made 25 when judged lbw to a ball from Lammonby angled into his pads and 97 for 4 as Ben Charlesworth was caught at mid-on aiming a back-foot forcing shot off the left-arm seamer. Lammonby had figures of three for 20 when Graeme van Buuren popped up a soft return catch and departed for a duck looking suspiciously at the pitch.At 97 for 5, Gloucestershire were in disarray. With 29 runs added, Tommy Boorman fell leg-before sweeping a ball from Leach, who followed up by having Daaryoush Ahmed brilliantly caught by Aldridge racing towards the long-on boundary from mid-off and taking the ball just inside the rope as it dropped over his shoulder.Jack Taylor drove a catch to mid-off give Ben Green a wicket, having faced 59 balls and hit six fours. With his departure at 140 for 8 went Gloucestershire’s last hope of a meaningful total and Ball wrapped up the innings as Matt Taylor and Craig Miles edged through to wicketkeeper James Rew.Somerset’s reply had reached 16 without loss when the forecast rain arrived at 2.25pm. James Rew quickly settled in, lofting a ball from van Buuren over long-off for six as he and Goldsworthy added 39 for the third wicket before the latter fell for 27, caught and bowled off a leading edge in Ahmed’s first over.Having survived a loud appeal for a catch behind off Josh Shaw, the Somerset captain prospered in tandem with younger brother Thomas Rew, who took a six and four off an Ahmed over before pulling Jack Taylor’s first ball of the match over deep square for another maximum.Taylor had Rew senior stumped by Bracey having faced 53 balls, but by then the outcome was beyond doubt and his precocious sibling saw Somerset home, ending unbeaten on 40 off just 39 deliveries.

Several players showed up for the pair of friendlies vs. Italy, led by Cat Macario's three goals, Jaedyn Shaw's first goal on the year, and a two-game shutout from Claudia Dickey.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The USWNT closed out the calendar year with a confident 2-0 win over UEFA Women’s Euro semifinalist Italy, sealing back-to-back victories over the Azzurre in three days and finishing 2025 with a 12-0-3 record. It was a year of firsts for the Americans: 43 players earned their senior debuts, the most in a single year since 2001.

It was a near-perfect conclusion for head coach Emma Hayes, who spent the year stress-testing the depth chart, integrating new faces and challenging the group to evolve its style of play. For the rematch with Italy, Hayes made five changes to the XI and started three teenagers – Lily Yohannes, Claire Hutton and Jordyn Bugg. Alongside them, Lindsey Heaps earned her 170th cap, tying former captain Carla Overbeck for 20th on the all-time appearance list. The blend of emerging talent and veterans has defined the arc of the U.S. program this year.

“My goal is always to create successive, competitive teams,” Hayes said. “Not just one team and then you have to rebuild again over another four-year period. This is how I know to build teams.”

The USWNT will now break before reconvening for January camp and the first friendlies of 2026. World Cup qualifying looms as the primary focus heading into the new cycle. Cat Macario’s three goals across the two Italy matches led the way, while goalkeeper Claudia Dickey capped her year with consecutive shutouts as the reshaped U.S. defense continued to settle in.

It’s hard not to love Macario, whose return to full form has been nothing short of remarkable. Now the USWNT’s leading scorer this year with eight goals, she was the clear focal point across both matches against Italy.

Macario wasn’t just clean and disciplined in her hold-up play – she delivered. She scored a brace in the first meeting and added an electric finish in the second, and realistically could have had more. The Chelsea forward has five goals in her last three U.S. appearances, and her output helped the Americans secure their ninth win in 10 games. Yohannes mentioned how Macario's finishing ability makes her top class and an easy player to assist. 

"Cat is just such a special player, and I know if she gets the ball in front of the goal, 10 times out of 10, it is probably going to be a goal," Yohannes said. 

There’s no holding Macario back now. Walking through the mixed zone afterward, she carried the look of someone who felt both pride and a growing sense of normalcy – back on the pitch, scoring goals, and doing it alongside teammates she calls friends.

It feels almost harsh to say Alyssa Thompson’s stock dipped, but across the two matches against Italy, her influence wasn’t at its usual level. Thompson started both games and remained her typically dynamic, impossible-to-contain self in flashes – yet she struggled to find her usual rhythm out wide.

Her best moments with the USWNT often come when she cuts inside and drives directly at defenders, but those opportunities were limited in both fixtures. When she did get on the ball, she more often looked for quick combinations through midfield rather than attacking players one-on-one.

It’s been a whirlwind year for the newly signed Chelsea forward, and with Mallory Swanson and Sophia Smith set to return, competition in the front line is about to intensify. For Thompson, continuing to lean into what makes her unique will be critical as the attacking depth chart tightens.

Rose Lavelle featured in only one of the two matches against Italy – understandable after her heroic, title-winning goal that lifted Gotham FC past the Washington Spirit in the 2025 NWSL Championship.

The Championship MVP didn’t look like she missed a beat despite the rapid turnaround from club to country. She was everywhere in midfield and set the tone early, slipping a clever ball to Olivia Moultrie for the opening goal inside the first 90 seconds. Lavelle now has three assists this year and 27 in her USWNT career.

Her soccer IQ remains unmatched: she sees gaps that shouldn’t be there and combines in spaces that appear far too tight. Earning her 116th cap, Lavelle is firmly a veteran presence in this group – and will be paramount in steering the U.S. toward the 2027 World Cup.

Racing Louisville forward Emma Sears didn’t quite replicate the success she’s shown in earlier USWNT appearances. She covered ground relentlessly after coming on in the second half, but her timing was a bit off – runs came a step late, and the finishing touch wasn’t there.

Sears’ work rate on the wing is almost unmatched, but the competition for wide attacking spots is fierce. On nights when she doesn’t produce a goal, an assist, or a clear impact while others do, it becomes harder to strengthen her case. Even so, Sears remains firmly in the mix for Hayes. Her energy as a first-off-the-bench option is valuable – the kind of spark teams rely on during long tournament runs.

Com a escolha de Abel em permanecer no Verdão, os cataris partiram para o plano B e contratam o também português Nuno Almeida, que nesta sexta-feira (24) levou a sua equipe à conquista da Copa do Emir. 

O salário anual de Nuno no Al-Sadd é de 8 milhões de euros (aproximadamente R$ 45 milhões), o valor corresponde cerca de quatro vezes menos que o time pretendia pagar por Abel Ferreira.

O intuito da equipe do Qatar era tornar o comandante palmeirense o mais pago do mundo, superando Diego Simeone, treinador do Atlético de Madrid, da Espanha, que recebe em torno de 34 milhões de euros (R$ 190,7 milhões).

Como está somente no seu segundo trabalho como treinador, a contratação do português pelo Al-Sadd foi considerada uma aposta, tanto que o contrato tem validade até junho. A avaliação do clube do Oriente Médio é positiva, mas a permanência de Nuno na equipe ainda não é tida como certa.

وأردفت سبورت قائلة، أن ليفاندوفسكي تلقى العديد من العروض من الأندية الأوروبية الكبرى، من بينها إي سي ميلان، لكن اللاعب لم يرد على أي عرض حتى الآن وأولويته هي البقاء في برشلونة.

The Dodgers aren’t done making moves this offseason, and another big one could be on the way.

ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez reports L.A. would “not be opposed” to trading Tyler Glasnow.

Glasnow has elite, ace-level stuff, but has only topped 100 innings once in his 10-year MLB career. Since joining the Dodgers in December 2023, he has only made 40 starts. In that time, he has gone 13-9, with a 3.37 ERA, a 1.01 WHIP, and 274 strikeouts against 78 walks in 224 1/3 innings. He has produced 5.5 fWAR and boasts an xFIP of 3.10.

As mentioned, the issue with Glasnow has been availability. He dealt with shoulder issues in 2025, after missing the entire postseason run in 2024 due to an elbow injury. This season, he only made 18 starts but pitched just 90 1/3 innings and went 4-3 with a 3.19 ERA.

The Dodgers acquired the 31-year-old Southern California native from the Rays along with Manuel Margo in exchange for Ryan Pepiot and Jonny DeLuca. They immediately signed him to a five-year, $136.5 million contract extension. As Gonzalez explained, the deal is fairly manageable now, with a minimum of $81.6 million left on it over the next three seasons if Glasnow opted in for 2028. Unless he gets a whole lot healthier, it’s unlikely anyone would pick up the $30 million option for 2028.

Glasnow could certainly be part of a deal for an upgrade, or the Dodgers could use him to solve the big hole they currently have in the outfield. Andy Pages is set in center field, while the team seems content to keep Teoscar Hernandez at one corner spot. Or they could decide to swing big and use the veteran righty as part of a package for Skubal, as Gonzalez suggests.

With Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Shohei Ohtani, and Blake Snell firmly entrenched in L.A.’s rotation, the remaining spots should go to Glasnow and Roki Sasaki. That’s as things stand today, but the Dodgers are not done maneuvering. Don’t be shocked if they do something big, and if Glasnow is part of it.

وقال عصام الطالبي، نائب رئيس نادي اتحاد طنجة المغربي، في مداخلة عبر برنامج “الكلاسيكو” على قناة “أون”: “هل تواصلتم مع عبد الحميد معالي بعد فسخه التعاقد مع الزمالك؟ نعم، وليس صحيحًا أن حالته النفسية سيئة، بل هو في حالة نفسية عالية جدًا”.

وتابع: “بعد أن بدأ إجراءات فسخ عقده مع الزمالك من طرف واحد، التحق بمدينة طنجة لترتيب وضعيته ويبحث عن حل ودي، وكان يعتبر الزمالك محطة مهمة في مشواره”.

وأوضح: “هل سيعود عبد الحميد معالي لاتحاد طنجة بعد فسخ التعاقد؟ اتحاد طنجة هو النادي الأم لعبد الحميد معالي وبابه مفتوح أمامه، وقد تواصلنا معه بالفعل، لكننا نحترم رغبة اللاعب وكذلك العقد القانوني الذي كان يربطه بالزمالك، ونحن في انتظار ما ستؤول إليه الأمور خلال الفترة المقبلة”.

The Baltimore Orioles and rising star catcher Samuel Basallo have agreed to an eight-year, $67 million contract extension, according to a report from ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Basallo, who is just four games into his major league career, is one of the best prospects in baseball. He is hitting .286 in 14 big league at-bats with five RBI.

The 21-year-old Basallo's contract with Baltimore will begin in the 2026 season, and could max out at $88.5 million. It is the largest pre-arbitration extension for a catcher in major league history.

The Orioles have now locked up their present (and future) catcher for years to come.
