Florian Kamberi let Moore down in August

Darren Moore’s Sheffield Wednesday have had an excellent start to the 2021/22 campaign following their relegation from the Championship.

They have racked up 10 points from their first five matches in League One and have seemingly shaken off the anchors weighing them down last season.

The Owls were held to a 0-0 draw by Charlton on the opening day before beating Doncaster, Fleetwood and Rotherham without conceding a goal. However, they ended the month on a sour note as they lost 1-0 to Morecambe in League One.

Despite their superb form so far, there are areas in which they can improve and players who did not perform at their best in August. One man in particular who let Moore down with his displays last month was centre-forward Florian Kamberi.

The Albanian featured in all five of Wednesday’s League One matches, scoring once in the 2-0 win over Rotherham. Despite that goal, the attacker was disappointing throughout the month overall with his general play.

As per SofaScore, he had six shots and missed one big chance to go along with his one league goal, suggesting that he should have scored more than he did. He also failed to create a single chance for his teammates in his five appearances, completing just 8.8 passes per game on average. This ties in with his dreadful attempts to dribble past opponents, as he was tackled in 75% of his efforts to take on and beat defenders.

In terms of his play off the ball, Kamberi struggled to compete. As per SofaScore, the 26-year-old lost 64% of his duels on the pitch, including 90% of his aerial battles. This suggests that he has not shown enough physicality to win duels against his opponents, who have been able to oust him the majority of the time in 50-50s.

Kamberi also lost the ball 34 times (6.8 per game) in 235 minutes of action in League One. This shows that he has not been secure enough in possession to hold on to the ball, along with his lack of strength in duels, his absence of creativity and his mixed luck in front of goal. He has let Moore down with his displays in August and will hopefully head into September with a point to prove to his manager.

– O menos culpado é ele (Roger Machado).

Talvez tenhamos duas equipes no Brasil jogando bem.

O próximo compromisso alvinegro no Brasileirão será contra o São Paulo, neste domingo, no Morumbi.

Phil Hay drops Leeds update on Adama Traore

The Athletic’s Phil Hay has dropped a transfer update on where things stand with Leeds United’s pursuit of Adama Traore.

What’s the story?

90min had previously revealed that Bielsa’s side are considering making a move for the 25-year-old this summer, with Wolves now ready to listen to offers for the winger.

The report added: “Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea have all kept close tabs on Traore, but Leeds are very much at the head of the queue as it stands.

“Traore’s relationship with Orta, who plucked him from a miserable time at Villa to take him to Boro, and his desire to work with Marcelo Bielsa could very well sway the deal in their favour.”

But now, speaking on The Phil Hay Show, the journalist poured cold water over Leeds making a move for the Spaniard this summer.

He said (via This is Futbol): “Victor Orta does know Traore very well, but I haven’t heard Traore spoken about at any point through the summer, and I know there have been the links, but every time we’ve asked about him, we’ve been told, definitely not or really no, it just doesn’t seem likely.

“And from what we are told at both ends – Wolves and Leeds – there hasn’t been any contact about Traore, or no official contact, so I can’t see that one.”

Bielsa will be gutted

Former Leeds midfielder David Norris has already given his backing behind a potential move for the Wolves flier, telling FFC: “He (Bielsa) likes them attacking, exciting players that can create.

“They still must work hard, but the way he’s been in the last couple of seasons, and how much of a danger he is and how much he an create, I think that would be a great signing. Leeds are looking for top players and I think he’s a top player.”

Crucially though, 90min also claimed that “Bielsa is a huge fan of the Spanish international winger, and has been for some time, believing he could blossom in his system at Elland Road.”

The Leeds boss’ reported admiration for Traore and thinking that he could really develop under his management at the club is exactly why he will be gutted with Hay’s latest update on where things stand.

Bielsa has more than earned the right to sign the players that he wants given his work in establishing Leeds as a Premier League club once more, so the fact there has been no contact made for Traore, and that it seems unlikely, will be a major disappointment to the Argentine.

Meanwhile, Joe Wainman has dropped an exciting Leeds United transfer claim…

Leicester suffer blow in Damsgaard pursuit

Leicester City have suffered a potentially significant blow in their pursuit of Sampdoria winger Mikkel Damsgaard.

What’s the story?

The Foxes are one of several Premier League clubs to have been linked with a move for the highly-rated 21-year-old in recent weeks following his impressive showing at Euro 2020.

However, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are in ‘first place’ to secure Damsgaard’s signature, meaning that a move to the King Power Stadium could be off the table.

Brendan Rodgers will be gutted

Damsgaard starred for Denmark over the summer, scoring two goals and laying on an assist for teammates in five appearances at the European Championship in helping his nation to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.

His eye-catching performances attracted the attention of a host of the continent’s top clubs, opening the door to a possible exit from the Stadio Luigi Ferraris despite only arriving in Serie A 12 months ago in a £6.08m deal.

The creative talent is a product of the famed Nordsjaelland academy and showed his class for Sampdoria last season, bagging two goals and providing four assists in 35 top-flight appearances as he settled into life on Italian shores.

He also managed 1.5 dribbles per league game, the highest tally amongst his teammates. His potential is clear for all to see, and he has showcased it on the international stage to devastating effect.

After playing a pivotal part in Sampdoria’s shock 2-1 victory over eventual champions Inter back in January, TV2’s football expert Martin Mikkelsen hailed Damsgaard as “magical”, praising his decision-making in the final third despite his tender years.

“He’s magical – what speed! He is dynamic and can go both ways. He is creative but also so mature in his decisions,” Mikkelsen claimed.

Therefore, Rodgers is likely to be gutted that Spurs and Aston Villa appear to be beating Leicester in the chase for the Danish maestro. The Foxes have had a successful transfer window so far, significantly strengthening the Northern Irishman’s ranks in a variety of positions.

However, one area which is still quite threadbare is the right wing. Marc Albrighton remains the only natural in that role within the first team squad, and Rodgers will be disappointed to learn of the extra competition for £18m-rated Damsgaard.

EVOLUÇÃO DO CARILLE

COMEMORAÇÃO DO GOL CONTRA A PONTE

Aston Villa: Preece shares Ward-Prowse update

Ashley Preece has provided an update on Aston Villa’s pursuit of Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse.

The Lowdown: Ward-Prowse offer turned down

Villa have been linked with a move for the Saints midfielder for two months now and have actually had a formal offer turned down.

David Ornstein of The Athletic revealed last week that Southampton rejected a £25m offer from Villa for the 26-year-old.

Villa have already done business with the Saints by signing Danny Ings, however, a move for Ward-Prowse looks set to be more complicated.

The Latest: Preece replies to fan

Reliable reporter Preece was asked by a Villa fan on Twitter for an update on Ward-Prowse and Axel Tuanzebe.

He replied, admitting ‘Southampton reluctant to sell’ Ward-Prowse – an interesting four-word update.

Preece, who has over 24,000 followers, got just over 20 likes for his reply, so his update appeared to go under the radar due to the fact he was replying to a fan rather than tweeting it out to the masses.

The Verdict: Another Smith-Rowe situation?

Reports from a Southampton source on Wednesday morning insisted the Saints have no intention to sell Ward-Prowse this summer and will turn down all bids they receive for the England international.

If that is true, Villa could be in line for another scenario similar to Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe.

They had two big-money bids turned down with the Gunners not interested in parting ways with the midfielder, and it seems as if that could be the case in their pursuit of Ward-Prowse.

Will we see the Villains move on to a third English midfield target instead? Todd Cantwell has also been linked.

In other news: ‘So scary’, ‘You what?’ – Lots of Aston Villa fans erupt at confirmed news.

Liverpool: Fans react to transfer activity update

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has challenged some of the club’s youngsters and fringe players to show why he shouldn’t dip into the transfer market [Mirror].

Making recruitment inroads, the Reds have welcomed the solitary addition of former RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate into the Anfield ranks [Transfermarkt].

Despite this, German boss Klopp has signified that there will be little movement from here on out in the window [Mirror].

Moreover, the 54-year-old has specifically challenged youngsters Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliot, Rhys Williams and Mateusz Musialowski alongside senior fringe men Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Xherdan Shaqiri and Takumi Minamino to step up and demonstrate why he shouldn’t open the chequebook this summer [Mirror].

Frustrated at the lack of arrivals ahead of 2021/22, many Liverpool diehards took to Twitter to express their dismay at recent developments.

Hussain satisfied despite bad day for England

BRISBANE, Nov 2 AAP – England captain Nasser Hussain was satisfied with his team’s pre-Ashes workout despite watching Queensland dominate the opening to the three-day tour match at Allan Border Field today.Martin Love scored an unbeaten 124 as the Bulls reached 4-333 at stumps on a day that did nothing to enhance England’s reputation before the Ashes series begins at the Gabba on Thursday. But Hussain had wanted his likely Test attack to work through a hard day against quality Queensland batsmen in Stuart Law (68), Andrew Symonds (47) and Jimmy Maher (41) after the Bulls won the toss.”We needed a real hard-work day and that’s just what we got,” Hussain said.”On a hard, flat wicket like this we haven’t got the firepower yet to blast sides out. We win by staying in games and that’s how it’s going to be out here.”Hussain was pleased with the performance of all-rounder Andrew Flintoff (2-61), who bowled 18 overs to prove he had recovered from the double hernia operation which had threatened his Test place. But Andrew Caddick (2-53) was the best bowler in an attack which lacked the ammunition to knock over Love, Law and the fluent Symonds. He claimed Maher and opener Brendan Nash (18) within six balls during a searching 10-over spell in humid conditions.Love, who has an Australian Cricket Board contract, hit 16 boundaries in an important personal knock in front of national selector Trevor Hohns. The 28-year-old, who has become one of the most reliable runscorers in Australian domestic cricket, warned England to expect a tough summer.”They’re going to have their work cut out, but their bowlers are certainly good enough,” Love said after his 23rd first-class century.”If they play on a wicket similar to this, which the Gabba will probably be, it’s going to be hard work for their bowlers.”Caddick was the best of the bowlers by a fair way, and the others seemed to have a few niggles.”Love has hit the ball more crisply during his career but he batted for almost five hours, surviving a confident LBW shout on 77 from the bowling of young quick Simon Jones (0-65 from 16 overs).Law looked the most likely batsman to post a century when he slipped past 50 in good time, but the veteran popped a return catch to Flintoff before the tea break.Symonds then threatened to unleash a typically rapid century before he provided a soft catch behind off Flintoff. He kept England waiting when he thumped left-arm spinner Ashley Giles (0-67 from 20) out of the ground and into a car park of the neighbouring Albion Park trotting track.England paceman Darren Gough, who has been ruled out of the first Test because of his troublesome knee, bowled in the nets and has received permission from Queensland Cricket to play grade cricket in Brisbane next week.Gough will line up for University on the second day of their match against Sandgate-Redcliffe, which has also been allowed to take in an English squad member not required in the first Test.

Fulham: Cottagers want Tommy Doyle

Fulham are reportedly among the clubs eyeing a move for Manchester City youngster Tommy Doyle, according to Football League World.

What’s the story?

Doyle has been with Manchester City since 2009 and has progressed his way through the club’s academy system over the years. His impressive showings for their under-23 side has seen him feature in the senior squad on a handful of occasions.

The 19-year-old has made seven senior appearances to date for Pep Guardiola’s first team, but it doesn’t seem as though he’ll feature on a regular basis for the Premier League champions any time soon.

Manchester City are reportedly keen to find him regular minutes in senior football away from the Etihad Stadium on a temporary basis, and it seems as though he won’t be short of offers.

West Brom, Sheffield United, QPR, Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough, Swansea City, Bournemouth, Cardiff City and Coventry City are also believed to be keen on signing Doyle this summer, so Fulham won’t have it all their way when it comes to trying to finalise an agreement for the midfielder.

Strength in depth could be key

Marco Silva’s side will be aiming to win promotion back into the Premier League at the first time of asking this season, and additional strength in depth wouldn’t do any harm.

We’ve already seen the likes of Harrison Reed linked with a move to Leeds this summer, and even though a formal bid is yet to be made, it’s good to see Fulham looking at other options heading towards the 2021/22 campaign.

Doyle could be an ideal signing for the Cottagers, with the youngster looking to make a name for himself in senior football having not been presented with much of an opportunity by Manchester City just yet.

Players who are hungry to prove themselves in senior football could provide the ideal competition for places in a team aiming to be challenging for promotion into the Premier League, and Silva would be hoping that Doyle could make a positive impact at Craven Cottage this term.

He has done that at under-23 level for City, with nine goals and 15 appearances in 50 appearances hinting at his game-changing ability – a trait which was lacking at Fulham last season. Even accounting for them playing at Premier League level, no player managed more than four assists in 2020/21 for Scott Parker’s team, while only Bobby Decordova-Reid scored more than four times [Transfermarkt].

Former Manchester City scout Greg Walsh labelled Doyle as “phenomenal” and “one of the best of his age in Europe” in an interview with HITC back in 2020, and it’s hard not to agree with that statement, especially when Manchester City have already given him seven appearances in their first-team squad so early into his career.

Fulham will know that they face a battle to land his signature this summer, but competition for the likes of Harrison Reed, Tom Cairney and André-Frank Zambo Anguissa is likely to be welcome for Silva ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

If the newly-appointed Fulham manager can fend off numerous other suitors for the Manchester City starlet, it would be an enormous feather in his cap ahead of his first season in the Craven Cottage dugout. Shahid Khan must do all he can to try and ensure that Fulham win the transfer scramble for the 19-year-old.
