The SFA have confirmed that the Scottish transfer window will be open from July 14 to October 5, giving Glasgow Rangers both a boost and a blow in equal measure.

The pandemic has thrown the football calendar into chaos, with leagues either ending prematurely, as in Scotland, or being suspended and subsequently extended until the end of July, as is the case with the Premier League.

It had been unclear as to how long the transfer window would be open but now the SPFL have confirmed that it will be open from July 14 until October 5, which equates to 12 weeks or three months.

This is both a boost and a blow to the Ibrox outfit. From a positive point of view, this means that the ‘Gers have plenty of time to complete the deals they need to strengthen their squad, with some deals needing plenty of time to be completed, especially in this current climate.

On the other hand, though, it could damage their hopes of holding onto a certain Alfredo Morelos. The striker has been linked with a move away from the blue side of Glasgow over the past few weeks and months, with Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and, more recently, Everton said to be interested. With a Transfermarkt value of £10.8m, he would likely bring in a substantial fee, but Steven Gerrard will want to keep his top scorer from 2019/20 as he plans for the next campaign.

Either way, it promises to be an important window for the ‘Gers. It is up to Ross Wilson and co to give Gerrard the best possible chance of success.

A primeira, e mais simples, é descansar. Depois, a ordem é encontrar soluções para as fragilidades expostas diante do Audax, como a desorganização da equipe.

Como analisa sua atuação e a do time contra o Audax?
Obviamente que as sensações não são boas. Deixamos passar a chance do primeiro título do ano. Foi um jogo aberto que poderia ter sido 5 a 5, mas perdemos e estamos em uma situação incômoda. Foi ruim para todos nós, coletiva e individualmente.Estava feliz com minhas atuações anteriores, mas ontem obviamente foi uma sensação ruim. Sobre o jogo, até acho que criamos mais chances, mas sei que futebolisticamente fomos superados. Ninguém pode reclamar de ninguém no time, que foi a seu máximo.

Teme os efeitos de uma nova eliminação na quinta-feira?
Strongest é a grande batalha do semestre e possivelmente nosso jogo mais difícil do ano pelas condições da altitude. Temos que dar tudo em La Paz na quinta-feira para seguir com os objetivos.Ninguém pensa em perder, mas é uma possibilidade. O foco é recuperar de ontem para chegar a esse jogo tão difícil e especial em La Paz.

Por que o time não vence fora de casa?
É uma estatística dura da nossa realidade. Precisamos ganhar corpo para ganhar fora de casa, com o tempo teremos, mas hoje marca nossas limitações como time. Não é para ter vergonha e nem esconder. A realidade fala mais alto. Saíram muitos em 2015 e chegaram poucos em 2016, mas não podemos subestimar o São Paulo, pois são nas horas difíceis ele dá a volta por cima.

O São Paulo está abaixo dos rivais?
Fizemos menos pontos e gols do que os rivais, e menos jogos bons também. Estamos em um escalão abaixo, mas também ninguém jogou tanto quanto a gente. Não tem casualidade nisso. É um tema politico para brigar e ficar esperto, porque só o São Paulo tem jogos decisivos a cada dois, três dias. Não dá para ser assim.Falar todo mundo fala, mas falar nas horas ruins só alguns. Temos a oportunidade de virar a página em La Paz e seguir na Libertadores.

كشفت صحيفة “آس” الإسبانية سبب فشل محاولات نادي ريال مدريد للتعاقد مع الدولي البرازيلي ديفيد لويز خلال نافذة الانتقالات الصيفية الماضية لتعزيز دفاع الفريق.

ريال مدريد في الصيف المُنقضي رحل عن صفوفه ثنائي الدفاع سيرجيو راموس ورافاييل فاران، حيث انتقل الأول إلى باريس سان جيرمان، بينما الثاني تم بيعه إلى مانشستر يونايتد.

وحسب صحيفة “آس” الإسبانية، فإن المدرب الإيطالي كارلو أنشيلوتي المدير الفني لريال مدريد، طلب من إدارة النادي التعاقد مع قلب دفاع جديد بعد رحيل راموس وفاران.

وأوضحت الصحيفة أن ريال مدريد حاول التعاقد مع البرازيلي ديفيد لويز بعد نهاية عقده مع آرسنال، حيث كان سينضم بالمجان إلى الملكي، ولكن رغم ذلك الصفقة لم تنجح.

وأشارت الصحيفة إلى أن ريال مدريد واجه عقبة تتمثل في قوانين رابطة الدوري الإسباني، حيث لا يمكن أن يمتلك أي نادٍ بالليجا أكثر من ثلاثة لاعبين من خارج الاتحاد الأوروبي.

ريال مدريد يملك الثلاثي البرازيلي، إيدير ميليتاو، بجانب رودريجو جوس، فضلًا عن فينيسيوس جونيور، لذا لم يتمكن النادي الملكي من التعاقد مع ديفيد لويز.

ديفيد لويز كان يملك عروضًا من إيفرتون ووست هام يونايتد بجانب لاتسيو، ولكن المدافع البرازيلي اختار العودة إلى وطنه، لينضم إلى فلامينجو البرازيلي.

Tottenham Hotspur have once again been linked with a move for Sporting Lisbon attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes, per The Independent.

What’s the word?

The Portugal international was heavily linked with Spurs throughout the summer and reports suggested that the club had tabled a formal bid for the attacking midfielder.

It now seems that manager Jose Mourinho is already making plans in the transfer window following his appointment in north London and it shouldn’t be a shock that Fernandes is reportedly a target.

Talking in June, the ex-Chelsea and Real Madrid boss hailed the qualities of Fernandes after a breakout 2018/19 campaign that saw him bag 32 goals and 18 assists in all competitions.

He said, per Eleven Sports via Goal: “I was surprised by the season of Bruno Fernandes. It was easy to predict quality, he is a very good player, but scored a very high number of goals for a midfield player.

“It shows that you need to have instinct and qualities to score and he has it all. He strikes the ball well, heads well, cool when he is one-on-one with the goalkeeper. He finds space in the penalty area. It’s all there.”

Mendes link-up

Jorge Mendes represents Fernandes, per the aforementioned report, and is also the agent of Mourinho.

If the new Spurs boss is keen on bringing Fernandes into the club, he ought to get on the phone to his agent and attempt to convince him to involve himself once more.

One has to feel that negotiations would subsequently be smoothed for a player who would undoubtedly improve Tottenham.

He has already scored nine goals and registered six assists in all competitions after 17 games and one feels that he could fit the profile of a goalscoring midfielder that Mourinho can work with.

Think of his success with Frank Lampard, who scored as many as 16 goals in a single season under Mourinho, at Chelsea; that could translate to Fernandes, provided Mendes can put two of his clients together in north London.

The future of Mauricio Pochettino is up in the air at the moment with both him and his team looking in despair following a run of one win in seven games.

Their no-nonsense attitude and high expectations of players is exactly what some feel the current squad needs, with one fan stating he is tired of the “Mr Nice Guy” approach from Pochettino.

Spurs’ recent downturn in form is a result of players underperforming, in part, and that is why Mourinho is viewed as an ideal replacement, as players who don’t meet his standards often find themselves out of the team, such as Luke Shaw during the Portuguese’s tenure at Old Trafford.

Aston Villa have found life tough in the Premier League so far this campaign, recording just one win from their seven matches.

One of the most significant issues facing manager Dean Smith has been goalscoring as his side have netted just eight goals, which ranks them as the fifth-worst in the division.

Summer arrival Wesley Moraes hasn’t yet lived up to his club-record £22m fee as he’s scored just two of those eight goals, with John McGinn bagging one more from midfield, which makes him their top scorer for the season.

As a result of their fortunes to date, it is believed the club are making £20m available for another striker in the January transfer window.

This week, Villa were linked with a move for Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos, which would suggest that those earlier reports had some sort of substance. Per Transfermarkt, he’s rated at £6.75m.

The potential signing has caused a bit of a stir amongst some members of the Villa faithful, with many labelling him a ‘loose cannon’ and a ‘liability.’

But are they right?

It’s quite clear to see that he would arrive with some baggage as he has picked up five red cards throughout his Ibrox career.

The most recent of which came in the Old Firm derby back in March when the striker received his marching orders after just half an hour.

However, this season, there clearly has been a mark of improvement on his temperament as he’s yet to be sent off and has picked up just the three bookings.

The 23-year-old’s goalscoring exploits have been nothing short of outstanding since joining Rangers in 2017 from Finnish giants HJK.

In his first season, he managed to net 14 goals while providing seven assists, which only improved the next year in five fewer appearances.

Morelos bagged 18 goals and provided eight assists in just 30 league appearances – that’s quite a return.

He’s continued that rich vein of form in front of goal into this campaign having already scored five goals.

The Colombian wouldn’t need as much time to adapt as Wesley considering Scottish conditions which makes this an instant positive. The quality differs but the environment is largely the same.

There have been numerous players that have been a success having come from the Scottish Premiership too, most notably McGinn, who is becoming a star at Villa. If Morelos could replicate what he’s achieved at Villa Park, he’d be an instant hit.

Gary Hooper and the two Steven’s, Naismith and Fletcher, have forged decent careers in England at some point.

Naismith played over 100 times for Everton while Fletcher managed 53 goals in 189 appearances in the top-flight – Hooper, who is without a club, has scored 61 times in 166 Championship matches.

That’s not to mention how Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson have impacted Liverpool in recent times, albeit in a different position.

Those players prove the quality is there to be had in the Scottish Premiership and Morelos is a player with definite potential.

Things might be looking a little bit brighter for Birmingham after their win against Middlesbrough.

However, there is one man who seems to find himself playing more as a passenger than a contributor, and that man is Alvaro Gimenez.

What is most concerning when it comes to Gimenez and his form is just how few chances he has managed to create for himself.

If you take a look at some of his statistics from WhoScored, he’s averaging only 1.1 shot per game. Compare that to someone like his teammate Lukas Jutkiewicz who is getting off almost three times that many efforts.

Whether or not the chances go in is a different matter, but it’s like that old saying ‘you can’t win the lottery if you don’t buy a ticket’ – if he isn’t getting any shots away, it’s no wonder that he’s struggling to find the net.

It’s not just his own chances that he’s struggling to create either, it’s the chances for other players that he is failing to string together as he is averaging 0.6 key passes per game.

Perhaps you can just put this down to a case of struggling to adapt to unnatural surroundings and that we are being too harsh on him. After all, he has only been there a few months.

However, there aren’t too many Birmingham players that are standing out at the moment. Jutkiewicz is their top scorer with just three so perhaps there is some argument for giving him the benefit of the doubt.

At the same time though, he has to start producing some tangible results if he wants to continue getting selected as part of the team.

Birmingham aren’t exactly blessed with a large number of centre-forwards right now and if Jutkiewicz gets injured, Gimenez could find himself incredibly exposed and under pressure at St Andrew’s.
